Six Reasons Why Your Spiritual Growth Is Stagnant

1.Your personality

Your personality can hold you back from spiritual growth when you think from your ego and ignore your wisdom. Your personality is a character shaped by trauma, cultural values, social norms, universal archetypes, and more. It is actually your ego. Calling it your personality makes it sound less theoretical. Your personality is not the driving force of your life. Imagine the personality as a case that covers a nucleus which is your spirit. Your spirit then shines light that is filtered through your personality and comes out as self-expression. Your spirit is the driving force of your life, so when you think from your personality, you are actually thinking backward and deepening your belief that your personality is all that you are. It should be your spirit that directs your personality, not the other way around. Imagine your spirit being enlightened but unable to express its light through your personality because it is blocked by self-doubt, a popular lifestyle, morals, cultural values. You have to break free from those things. If you know better, do better.

2. Unable to let go of the past

Another reason why your spiritual growth is stagnant is because you find it difficult to let go of the past. You are used to having personal issues and do not know any other way of being. Releasing yourself from the emotional bongage of the past means stepping outside of your comfort zone and that can be uncomfortable. Letting to of the past takes self work and dicipline which leads to the next reason why your spiritual growth is stagnant.

3. Lack of dicipine

Lack of discipline can be a major hindrance to spiritual growth. Are you willing to put in the effort to release old habits and form new ones that enable your spiritual growth? Are you disciplined enough to adhere to rules that promote spiritual development? Without discipline, it is difficult to control your ego and make progress in the spiritual realm. Self-mastery requires discipline, so it is important to cultivate this trait. Just as discipline is essential for achieving goals in other areas of life, such as fitness or learning a new skill like playing guitar, it is also crucial for spiritual growth. If you do not have a spiritual practice, it can be challenging to improve your spiritual abilities or make progress on your spiritual journey.

4. Material Persuit

The material world on Earth is said to be one of many planes of existence. The basis of our material world is comprised of the four elements: earth, water, fire, and air. These elements come together to form physical things, including the human body. When one becomes enlightened, they awaken to the experience of other forms of existence beyond this one. There is a feeling that this place is not the end-all-be-all. Choosing to live solely through a material perspective and purposefully shutting down the spiritual for material pursuits will slow down anyone’s spiritual connection to their God selves. While we are here on Earth having a human experience, balance is key.

5. Lack of knowledge

Modern society may have you believe that living a non-religious spiritual lifestyle makes you odd, when in fact the entire world lived non-religious spiritual lifestyles just a few hundred years ago. It was normal to consult with soothsayers to check your future, and every culture had its spiritual system embedded within their cultural lifestyle. Over time, these lifestyles were replaced with religious ones. Without a study of history, it may seem far-fetched that giving to gods for a fruitful harvest season was as normal as waking up to go work a 9-5 job. There is much history to ground spiritual pursuit. In fact, the world has pretty much been there, done that, so making progress in one’s spiritual journey just takes going back to what our ancestors did. There’s no need to reinvent something that was already tried, tested, perfected, and widely practiced.

6. Not listening to your higher self

The sixth reason why your spiritual growth may be stagnant is because you know better but choose not to do better. Your higher self is always speaking to you, guiding you to make choices based on higher level thinking. Spirits may also be guiding and communicating with you, but you may not be listening.
